Casa de Eguía, part of our landscape

Casa de Eguía, part of our landscape

Nine rooms with a view

After entering through the front door, a large hall invites us to go to the rooms on the ground floor and, at the back, to climb the grand staircase to the upper floors, which house large sitting rooms and nine comfortable bedrooms, each equipped with own bathroom. We are in Casa de Eguía, the high manor that rises at one end of the largeBodegas Viña Eguía winemaking complex, along the road A-3214, just outside our town of Elciego.

La Casa de Eguía was built between 1963 and 1964, at the same time as the huge adjacent winemaking facilities. The architecture of the house follows the traditional style of the noble stone masonry houses that can be found in the historic centers of Rioja Alavesa villages. It is said that to build it, large blocks of golden sandstone were brought to the same doors, and there were carved. And it is also said that the slabs of their balconies are inspired by those of the well-known Casa de los Hierros, right in the center of Elciego.

Casa de Eguía, part of our landscape

Casa de Eguía is impressive, both for what it is seen, its strong and airy lines, of balanced proportions, as for what it is not seen: its exemplary quality, its degree of conservation and health. It is a building that achieves having a perfect integration into the landscape.

The main façade faces north: towards Sierra de Cantabria. From the living room and, above all, from the rooms on the upper floors, the views are a spectacle. In the first place a small and charming vineyard, whose rows point towards a pretty holm oak planted by the road. Beyond, the hills covered with vines; in the background, the imposing mountain range.

Up to the present, Casa de Eguía has hosted occasional visits from clients and journalists. Our hope for the near future is to give it more use, and open it to  tourists that seek a unique experience.
