Conde de los Andes, Capítulo II

We have something to tell about Conde de los Andes. A very special release. A new illusion. A limited production wine that boosts our historic brand portfolio. It connects us with the past, literally; not only because the wine has matured in our 16th and 17th century cellars, but also because many of the vines from which the grapes come were planted in 1910!

After the release of Conde de los Andes Capítulo I. Malvasía, we present Capítulo II: our Garnacha sourced from vines in Briñas, one of the northernmost Garnachas that can be found in the Iberian Peninsula. This wine is the result of the passing of time, of an exceptional terrain and of a courageous winemaking decision. We are delighted to release this limited edition of 1,162 bottles and we are proud to be contributing in a unique way to the long wine growing history of this unspoiled corner between Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa.

What?s behind Capítulo II. Garnacha

A good description of our new wine was written by journalist Amaya Cervera in a recent update of Conde de los Andes winery published on her online magazine Spanish Wine Lover: ?A well-defined 2016 Garnacha which explores specific aspects in the vineyards of Conde de los Andes and results in vibrant acidity.?

One of the main qualities of this wine is its extraordinary freshness, resulting from its bright, well integrated acidity. The key to this quality is to be found in the location of the two vineyards, at an elevation of almost 600 metres in an area known as Viñas de Briñas. It is a valley beneath the Peña Las Heces cliff, on the Sierra de Toloño mountains. Our plots are at the top of this valley, right on the edge of the rugged hillside. The setting is unique and extraordinary, with stunning views of the Ebro valley.

The elevation, the microclimate, the clay-lime soils ?very suitable for growing grapes?, the old age of the vines and, consequently, the depth of their roots... all these factors contribute to the aromatic intensity of the wine ?its floral and undergrowth notes. It displays great freshness and harmony on the palate, with the subtly sweet and balanced finish found in the best garnachas.

With this great wine, our brand Conde de los Andes reaches new levels of identity and affinity with its origin.
