The word summer echoes sun, beach, the outdoors and nice weather. Whites and rosés like Muriel's or Viña Eguía's come to mind, but we don't usually think of a Reserva as a first option. We tend to identify great reds with more formal occasions. You know: white tablecloth, professional service, good quality glassware. Or cold seasons when we long for elaborate dishes, rich meats, piping hot stews.
Could a red Reserva turn into one of your top summer wines? Of course it could, provided that we stay away from clichés and look into the wine's own character to find an affinity with summery moments. That's exactly what we have done with one of our most elegant and complex reds, Viña Muriel Reserva.
Armed with a six-bottle case of Viña Muriel Reserva, we set out to discover some top plans. And we found them in the cultural scene three contrasting experiences in very different locations that will turn August into a very special month if we enjoy them with our wine.
First. The Truefest
A mansion in the English countryside, live acts in halls and gardens, friendly people, no queues and good atmosphere among gardens and verandas. In the avalanche of summer festivals in the British isles, Truefest is a really special experience. In its third edition, set to be held between 3rd-5th August, the festival promises to offer three top days full of good sounds and cool vibes. The perfect occasion to enjoy a full-bodied red with depth, varietal character and 100% Elciego-Rioja Alavesa typicity. If you plan to go to Truefest, make sure you take more than a case of Viña Muriel Reserva because you're going to make lots of friends.
Second. René Magritte: The Fifth Season exhibition
What we see, is it really what we see! The great Magritte challenges us to answer this question through his artwork in an unmissable selection now available at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. On show until October, the exhibition explores the Belgian artist's singular universe, specially focused on the late stages of his career, when he painted provocative, ingenious and unforgettable works of art. Check out SFMOMA and formulate your own theories about surrealism over a glass of Viña Muriel Reserva: the contrast looks really promising.
Third. Roman Theatre Festival in Andalusia
In terms of classic Mediterranean culture, a meditative, enjoyable red wine is as representative as you can get. Having this premise in mind, any of the shows on this festival are the perfect pairing for Viña Muriel Reserva. Be it in the Itálica theatre (Seville), Baelo Claudia (Tarifa) or on the stage in Málaga, summer nights are filled with great tragedies, enlightened by Dionysius dances, beaming with universal dialogues and paired with a wine worthy of the gods.
