Muriel Fincas de la Villa Reserva is experiencing a great season of recognition. A constant trickle of prizes comes in parallel to the good performance of its commercial trajectory worldwide.
The current vintage, 2015, is getting high scores wherever it competes. In recent months, four of the most prestigious voices of the international press and critics praise our Reserva red wine made from Tempranillo grapes harvested in vineyards all throughout Elciego (Rioja Alavesa). This is the town where our winery is located. Muriel Reserva reflects precisely the diversity of orientations and soils within the town limits, in a search for the character of what we call our municipal "macro-terroir".
A review of the most recent mentions begins with the gold medal won in the Rioja Masters contest, organized by the British publication Drinks Business, widely read by a professional audience. The jury has considered the 2015 Muriel Reserva the best in its price range. We continue with the valuable 93 points awarded by prestigious Decanter magazine. The same score gives the American magazine Wine Spectator, with very positive comments. Finally, the critic James Suckling, one of the most influential of the moment, also awards 93 points.
We offer under these lines the original comments.
"As for the Reservas, where a minimum of three years ageing (one of which must be spend in oak) brings an altered style of wine, we were delighted to find a delicious, classic, complex and bright red from Bodegas Muriel that retailed below £15, with its Fincas de la Villa Reserva awarded a Gold."
"Highly Recommended."
"Rich and round, with ripe tannins and orange peel acidity (...) A balance of traditional and modern styles."
"Plenty of dried flowers, dark berries and sandalwood on the nose. Full body. Firm and silky tannins. Gorgeous finish. Drink or hold."
