New release: Maga Reserva 2014

A long-awaited wine

We launch a long-awaited, very special wine: Fundación Maga Reserva 2014. This wine helps us to raise funds for our foundation, which supports and aids children in underdeveloped countries.

This new Reserva bottle is embossed with the coats of arms of Muriel, our initial winery. A new label, featuring a batik print "a traditional fabric in Western African countries" adds to this striking design. As you know, a great deal of the activities developed by Maga Foundation take place in this part of the African continent, particularly in Sierra Leone, where we are launching a new education initiative.

Revamping the Lunsar school for girls

Located in the north of Sierra Leone, Lunsar is a mining town with around 50,000 inhabitants. Clarisas Sierra Leone Foundation runs a school for more than 500 boys and girls.

Maga's efforts will be focused on the construction and refurbishment of facilities for female students, a segment of the children's population who suffer a higher risk of poverty and social exclusion. Plans include new classrooms and toilets for girls as well as a contribution towards teachers' wages, a key element to ensure education is provided on an ongoing basis.

These actions will be partly funded with the sale of Maga Foundation wines.

Reserva 2014: a short tasting note

This is a deep and complex wine sourced from old Tempranillo vines (50 years old on average) planted in El Gallo vineyard, an elevated area with commanding views of Elciego.

Bright ruby colour, it has balanced aromas and notes of ripe plums, mild spices and Mediterranean shrubs. Such harmonious nose is replicated on the round palate. It is a powerful and structured wine but with a silky, elegant texture.

We recommend serving it at 16ºC-18ºC with roasted and grilled meats as well as hearty stews. It's the perfect pairing for cane-roasted lamb chops -Rioja's traditional dish. Given its fresh character, as befits its Rioja Alavesa origin, it is a good match for oily fish dishes like tuna belly or grilled bonito.
