A new recognition
A new recognition of the elegance and complexity of our Gran Reservas from Rioja Alavesa. In his recent evaluation of DOCa Rioja wines, American wine critic James Suckling has highlighted with high scores and positive comments the long aging wines that we make in Elciego with old Tempranillo vineyards.
Our two ranges, Muriel Fincas de la Villa ?Rioja Alavesa wines with a high percentage of grapes from the town of Elciego? and Viña Muriel ?wines from the vineyards of El Gallo plateau, west of the Elciego? are the result of a great knowledge of the vineyard as well as winemaking and ageing processes.
As in every great wine, the key is the quality of the grape, its expressiveness and concentration, and how these virtues manage to achieve a high standard.
Viña Muriel Gran Reserva 2006
94 points
A pretty old wine with walnut, plum and chocolate character. Medium to full body. This is traditional and solid. Drink now.
Muriel Fincas de la Villa Reserva 2015
93 points
Plenty of dried flowers, dark berries and sandalwood on the nose. Full body. Firm and silky tannins. Gorgeous finish. Drink or hold.
Muriel Viñas Viejas Gran Reserva 2010
93 points
Lots of subtle fruit character to this wine from an excellent vintage and now showing age. Medium to full body. Fine tannins and a flavorful finish. Drink now.
Why choose these wines?
The key is the moment. When having a top quality red meat (a great Angus beef steak, let's say), Muriel Reserva 2015 is a true bomb.
Meats with sauce would be better with the Viñas Viejas: its higher silkiness perfectly surrounds the sticky texture.
With roasts and grilled meats ?for instance, suckling lamb? the older Viña Muriel Gran Reserva is the option.
Drink with reponsability but also with pleasure!
