In the heart of the Salnés Valley (Pontevedra province, north-western Spain), Meis is home to several well-known wineries and hundreds of vine plots that are part of the Rías Baixas appellation of origin. Until now, however, it lacked its own space to showcase the activity of such an important sector. This shortcoming was addressed on 19 and 20 October with Meus Viños, Xornadas de Autopromoción Vitivinícola de Meis, a wide-ranging event to promote the wines of the area and in which our winery Pazo Cilleiro took part.
The first edition of Meus Viños was fantastic. The quality of the wines was high, there was a broad range of foods on offer and a very stimulating music and entertainment programme enjoyed by a large, diverse and enthusiastic audience. What more could you ask of a wine fair?
In addition to tasting the wines of the 11 wineries in Meis, the general public warmly welcomed the Meus Viños event, which featured exciting initiatives such as a cooking demonstration by Cambados chef Yayo Daporta and the presentation of Muriel Wines and the projects of Fundación Maga (our charity organisation) on the afternoon of Saturday 19. On Sunday morning, early risers jumped on their BTT bikes to follow the Rías Baixas Wine Route, which started at the fair itself.
Music, of course, provided the most animated moments of Meus Viños. At noon on Saturday we had the chance to listen to local band Os Druídas, while the afternoon session was led by La Duendeneta, who had us dancing till midnight. At midday on Sunday, the place was filled with the sounds and the fiesta of Dani Barreiro & Friends, a tremendously funky group that provided the soundtrack to the drinks with Pazo Cilleiro and Conde de los Andes Tempranillo from Rioja, kindly welcomed by their friendly colleagues, the Albariños from Rías Baixas.
The organisers of Meus Viños deserve a big round of applause. We're already looking forward to the next one!
