San Sebastián Gastronomika, one of the key events of the year for chefs, gourmets, specialist media and any professional or food enthusiast, once again presented this year Cata Élite (Elite Tasting) organised by local newspaper Diario Vasco at Arzak restaurant.
The novelty of this edition concerned us directly: for the first time, two of our wines from Conde de los Andes were included.
Twenty-two wines from Spanish wineries took part in the tasting, especially from Rioja, Ribera del Duero and Navarra. Selected especially for the occasion, they represent a high level of singularity and differentiation.
Conducted by Íñigo Galatas, renowned food and wine critic at Diario Vasco, the session was attended by a group of prestigious sommeliers from restaurants in Gipuzkoa province. Among them, Shua Ibáñez and Martín Flea, from Rekondo; Joxemi Aierbe, from Casa Gandarias, Juan Mari Humana, from Hidalgo 56; Salah Bentalab, from Mirador de Ulía; Ciro Carro, from Akelarre; and Arzak professionals Adolfo Avilés and Mariano Rodríguez.
In his report of the tasting for Más Gastronomía, a supplement of Diario Vasco, Íñigo Galatas underlines the philosophy of our Conde de los Andes wines: to establish a lively and exciting connection with the splendid winemaking past of the Ollauri-based winery.
As the San Sebastián critic points out, we are working on two fronts. On the one hand, wines from current vintages (such as the 2015 red) "reflect the winemaking tradition of over 100 years ago but have been adapted to modern tastes". On the other hand, with the Colección Histórica wines, Muriel Wines accepts "the responsibility of collecting the legacy of the old Conde de los Andes winery with the respect that a brand with so much tradition deserved".
It was fantastic to be part of Arzak's Cata Élite. A new milestone on the prestigious journey of Conde de los Andes.
