Viña Muriel Blanco Reserva at its best

A wine with substance and complexity for this autumn

Did you know that now is the perfect time to taste, drink and enjoy our longest aged white wine?

We are talking about Viña Muriel Blanco Reserva 2014, the vintage now on sale. After several recent tastings, we are convinced that it is at its best moment of consumption.

Incredibly balanced, with white flowers and citrus fruit aromas. Round, silky and elegant on the palate yet very fresh, lively and full of energy. The aftertaste is tremendously long, filling the palate with pleasant intensity. All these qualities reveal a wine at its finest in terms of definition and expressiveness. It is really something to take advantage of!

The source of Viña Muriel Blanco Reserva

A classic wine, of remarkable depth and vibrant energy, which is surprising given its extended ageing. This is due to the age of the vineyard: plants that have been standing for more than 40 years reaching an almost-perfect balance.

Made with a strict selection of Viura grapes from El Gallo in the village of Elciego (Rioja Alavesa), the wine undergoes a very calm, delicate and meticulous winemaking. For example, grapes are gently pressed to extract only the fruitiest part of the must. The essence of its expressive and round personality is that we ferment the wine in top quality medium-toast French oak barrels before spending eight months ageing in these same barrels.

Seeing and touching the Viura vines of El Gallo is something special. Few vines retain so much elegance at such remarkable age: more than 40 years old. Their roots sink into the clay-calcareous soils in search of suitable nutrition. From the long arms of each vine healthy, good-sized clusters are born. Grapes are very tasty, producing a wine with substance and complexity.

Pairings at the table

Now and the rest of the autumn ahead of us is a great time to enjoy this wine. It is highly versatile, but there is no doubt that Viña Muriel Blanco Reserva pairs beautifully with fatty or gelatinous fish, such as bonito, tuna and cod.

It also goes very well with stews, an increasingly appealing dish as the cold weather settles in: cream soups, legumes, traditional stews... Egg or mushroom dishes are fantastic companions. And of course, mixed rice dishes or even meat paellas: our great Viña Muriel white not only can handle complex flavours, but also spicy and intense dishes. In any case, it is a wine meant to be enjoyed.

A simple plate of fried eggs, a dish that it's not easy to pair, finds in Viña Muriel Blanco Reserva a very suitable match. The complexity of the wine and its spicy notes from the long ageing surely help.
